Finding God

  ...Hidden in the Ordinary

Christian spiritual direction grows out of the early Church's practice of paraklesis, where Jesus called His people to walk "close beside" one another in spiritual discernment and discipleship.

Jesus was named Immanuel or 'God with us', bringing God close enough to touch. As we begin to walk in this profound truth, we find that God is often hidden in plain sight and that Jesus is closer to us than our own heartbeat. In spiritual direction, we work together to recognize how God (as Father, Son and Spirit) is moving in your life, while seeking to identify and overcome the barriers that keep you from opening your life more fully and fruitfully to God's loving presence. This form of disciple-making is rooted in the belief that God wants to be found.  When we listen carefully together with open receptivity, we find that God is eager to show Himself to us in ways that are both healing, liberating and deeply transformative.

I have completed a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction and Directed Retreats from Creighton, a Jesuit University in Omaha, Nebraska. I also received an MA in Christian Spirituality from Creighton and am a certified member of Spiritual Directors International.

My undergraduate work was primarily in biblical studies with a focus on the Old Testament. I was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies (with Distinction) from Taylor University in Edmonton, Alberta.

My husband and I have completed the program Living from the Heart through the Soulstream Ministry in Calgary, Alberta. I am currently working toward a Graduate Certificate from the Theology of the Body Institute in Pennsylvania.

My family recently lived in residence at a Benedictine Monastery in North Omaha, where Phil and I were oblate candidates. Sadly, our year of candidacy was cut short by Covid, but our time with the monastery was rich and deepened us on our journey toward discipleship in Christ.

As a homemaker and layperson, I have been studying the scriptures and reading the bible contemplatively for over 25 years. My graduate paper focused on integrating the two Christian traditions of Ignatian prayer and lectio divina as a form of praying the scriptures and then drawing from both sacred practices in the ministry of spiritual direction.

Meeting You Where You're At

Having deep roots in the Protestant tradition, I have focused my personal and undergraduate studies on understanding the Old and New Testament as a whole and integrated narrative. As a complement to this, my graduate studies have been within the contemplative Catholic tradition. Drawing from this rich and dynamic well, I seek to offer spiritual direction in a way that honours the depth and breadth of our sacred Judeo-Christian heritage, meeting fellow sojourners where they're at in their faith tradition and practices.

Having just moved from our farm to Camrose, I am grateful for the technology that allows me to continue providing online spiritual direction through Zoom, affording me the opportunity to come alongside believers and seekers from around the world. As we settle into our new home, I also look forward to being able to host live direction sessions for those that I accompany in this area of Alberta.

Meeting You Where You're At

Living in rural Alberta, I am grateful for the technology that allows me to provide online spiritual direction through Zoom, affording me the opportunity to come alongside believers and seekers from around the world.

I am also committed to supporting directed retreats, so please feel free to talk with me about any retreat that you may be preparing for. Directed retreats are easily facilitated through Zoom and are a way of nurturing you into a deeper presence with God as you take time to meet with Him in silence or solitude—whether it is at a retreat centre, a cabin in the woods or your own living room.

Because spiritual direction is new to many people, I offer a no-fee introductory session as an opportunity to get to know each other and explore what a direction session might look like. It is important to me that spiritual companionship be accessible to anyone who is seeking a closer relationship with God--regardless of location, income, religious background or life experiences. As a fellow sojourner, I would be honoured to walk alongside you for a while on this good path.

"Earth's crammed with heaven,

And every common bush afire with God,

But only he who sees takes off his shoes;

The rest sit round and pluck blackberries. "
